In 1867, Isaac Johnson arrived at Jefferson Barracks near St. Louis, Missouri. An unknown, illiterate hotel worker and former slave from Montgomery, Alabama, he was to become an original Buffalo Soldier, destined to change the course of American history and the world. In this Portals to the Past event, watch an interview with Private Isaac Johnson, one of the first Buffalo Soldiers, as portrayed by his descendant, George Pettigrew of the National Buffalo Soldiers 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association. Participants will be able to post questions for Private Johnson to answer. Event will take place on Zoom.
