Manipulating the Masses: Chinese Propaganda Posters - Discussion

Date and Time: March 3, 2019, 3:00 PM CT

Location: Kauffman Museum, 300 E 27th St, North Newton
(view on google maps)

Presented by Kris Ercums, Curator of Global Contemporary & Asian Art, Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas.

Kris Ercums has amassed a collection of 300 posters created during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, also known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. Learn how to interpret the propaganda messages communicated with these visually stunning posters.

This event is part of "Campaign for a New China, Posters of the Cultural Revolution, 1966-1976," an exhibition of propaganda art acquired by a Kansan visiting China during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. These posters tell the story an idealistic but troubled vision of a pure communist society.

Sponsored by: Kauffman Museum
